Organizational

Social Invention Activity
Cory Young

The purpose of this activity is to simulate and bring to life in an immediately applicable way, the interaction between elements of communication (sender/receiver, noise, channel, etc.), communication skills and components, organizational communication theories: (classical management, human relations/resources, systems, and cultural approaches). According to O’Hair, Friedrich and Dixon (2011) in Strategic communication in the business and professions, “communication skills are central to promoting excellence . . . [and] have five components: creative insight, sensitivity, vision, shared, meaning, and integrity” (p. 3). These components are especially crucial in work teams as “Today, most work that goes on inside an organization utilizes a team approach” (Eisenberg & Goodall, 2004, p. 275). Developing the components above strengthens relations and improves individual and organizational performance.
